Your introduction should include background information to introduce the problem and include a thesis statement at the end that restates the problem and mentions that there are some solutions to the problem.

Today’s Schools and Obesity
These days more and more children are suffering from obesity and related illnesses. The causes of this are many such as too much junk food, lack of exercise, and overuse of computers. Who is to blame? Some people think parents have to take responsibility for their children’s health. Others look to the government to pass laws banning or taxing junk foods, but it’s important not to forget schools. Children spend much of their time at school and the reason they are there is to get an education. That’s why schools are the best place to start. Because obesity is a serious problem, there are three things schools should do to help children and families become healthier.

This paragraph will explain why childhood obesity is a serious problem. Think about the effects.
You should include a transition sentence at the beginning of this paragraph. For example:

In order to help end childhood obesity, there are three things schools should do.

2. Eliminate sugary drinks and unhealthy foods from school cafeterias and vending machines
3. Educate children and parents about this topic
Conclusion (page 75)
There are several stategies you can use to end your essay. You can try a counterargument- think about what other people who disagree with you might say and then explain why they are wrong and you are right. Or, you can try a call to action- give advice about how to get involved and what the positve results of your actions will be.
